CRC for Remote Economic Participation

The Cooperative Research Centre for Remote Economic Participation (CRC-REP) is a public good research centre that delivers solutions to economic disadvantage in remote Australia. We began our operations on 1 July 2010 and will be funded until 20 June 2017. The CRC-REP will systemically investigate and provide practical responses to the complex issues that drive economic participation in Australia's remote regions.

CRC-REP contributes to the Australian Government's national 'Closing The Gap' priority policy, which aims to halve the unemployment, welfare and other differences between Aboriginal people in remote areas and the rest of Australia. By studying and understanding the drivers and nature of the 'gap' the CRC will help overcome them. The Centre has three goals:

  • To develop new ways to build resilience and strengthen regional communities and economies across remote Australia
  • To build new enterprises and strengthen existing industries that provide jobs, livelihoods and incomes in remote areas
  • To improve the education and training pathways in remote areas so that people have better opportunities to participate in the range of economies that exist.
